Eggesford Hunt, Affeton Moor Cross, 02.10.2020

Last Friday sabs went out once again to keep an eye on Eggesford’s cub hunting. The large group of supporters that had gathered at Affeton Moor Cross were surprised to see sabs, remarking that there wouldn’t be any hunting since sabs were present. Just what we like to hear.

Like the week before, Jason led a group of 6 riders on a large loop around the lanes as sabs were told we were “wasting our time”. It may surprise some hunt members but stopping them from killing is exactly why we go out! After an hour of trotting around in the rain, occasionally stopping in random fields allowing us time for some hound cuddles, they packed up and headed off.

Sabs stuck around, knowing that the hunt would likely return to the area. In the meantime we found the local beagle pack and made sure that they too did nothing but exercise.

At around 3 in the afternoon we found Ian Cann lurking in a layby. Cann immediately alerted hunt goon Martin Tucker and we spent some time driving around the Devon countryside filming each other. Tucker’s companion even started filming random passersby. Apparently if anyone is seen anywhere near our landrover they are fair game to these idiots.

Jason couldn’t muster anyone else to come back and brave the appealing weather (not even his hounds!) so, and we’re not joking, he spent the afternoon wandering around Affeton Moor blowing his hunting horn. Sabs spent the time productively, checking up on some badger setts in the area.

We will be back again soon “wasting our time” watching over foxes, hares and badgers.

We’d like to thank Mike Huskisson and co for joining us on that soggy morning to ensure no hunting took place!
