Last Saturday we headed to Dartmoor to sab the Mid Devon Hunt who met at Kestorgate, west of Chagford. The Dartmoor hunts have already had their opening meets, so this should have been a normal main season meet for the Mid Devon.
However, it was a wet grim morning, only a small number of riders showed up, and the presence of sabs contributed to an unusually early finish.
The hunt spent most of the time hunting the valley south of Teigncombe around Boldventure. Our sabs saw multiple foxes fleeing for their life and were able to successfully call hounds away from their line and give them valuable minutes to escape death. Huntsman Duncan Hume came to harass our foot teams but was unsuccessful in ridding himself of us for the day.
After a few very soggy hours he called it a day and hacked back to the kennels leaving more than half his hounds strewn across the moor, howling and lost.
