Yesterday we thought we’d pay a visit to the Tiverton Foxhounds who haven’t been sabbed in a while. We had some vehicle trouble to start with, which made us a little late, but we soon found the hunt a little way to the north of the meet (Kentisbeare House) as they went into fields around Highwood’s Farm. Huntsman Gerald Emmet boasted that he was out despite having Covid!
Drawing blank in this area, the hunt headed out to the road and crossed towards Colly Down Plantation where huntsman again cast hounds out. Deer scattered in all directions and sheep were sent running, with an entire flock ending up on the road north of Blackborough House.
The hounds occasionally started speaking and were hunted on but never really owned the line. They crossed via Blackborough House towards Blackborough Common, and hounds were cast out on Forestry Commission land. Yet another hunt that thinks the Forestry ban doesn’t apply to them!
Our two foot sab teams kept tabs the whole time, taking it in turns to stick with huntsman and hounds and rating the hounds whenever they started making a noise. The hunt turned back towards Blackborough and north through Allhallows Farm in direction of Ashill, drawing blank in hedges and bramble patches, and then slowly started making their way back towards the meet.
