Today a small team of sabs went to find the Eggesford hunt at their 7am cub hunting meet at Horridge Moor near Chulmleigh.
Apparently Jason has decided to go back to blatantly illegally hunting in front of us and immediately put his hounds into dense gorse where they picked up on the scent of a fox. It was a tiring day for our foot team keeping up as Jason and the hounds hunted the gorse and valleys around Horridge moor. However at least 5 foxes and 1 hare were seen fleeing from the hunt and sabs both in the field and on the road were in position to cover the tracks of the fox with citronella and rate hounds away from where the foxes had gone.
Midway through the day sabs came across a hound in severe distress – two of his paws had become horribly tangled in a barbed wire fence and he was hanging and in a lot of pain. Sabs called for Jason to come help free the hound but were ignored as Jason rode past instead hunting his hounds on the line of a fox. Sabs stayed with the trapped hound and managed to free him although he will have some nasty wounds.
Towards the end of the morning hounds were scattered far and wide in the valleys and Jason had to spend a huge amount of time trying to gather his lost hounds. Eventually the hunt packed up and headed home at 10:30.
