Dartmoor! We see your four hunts and we raise you thirteen sab groups!
Today we were joined by sabs from across the south of England (and Ireland) to sab the annual joint meet of the four Dartmoor hunts at Two Bridges. This year the meet was hosted by the Dartmoor Hunt at Princes Hall Hotel. Alexander Darwall, the landowner who recently got wild camping banned on “his” slice of the moor, is listed as a member of this hunt. Him and other major landowners would clearly like to turn the moor into a private playground for bloodsports junkies.
18 years on from the Hunting Act, hunts on Dartmoor are still killing wildlife. But for as long as they keep hunting, we will keep sabbing. This year is also the 60th anniversary of the Hunt Saboteurs Association, the oldest anti bloodsports direct action movement, and we are massively proud to be part of it.
We were treated to typical Dartmoor weather. Sunshine one minute and hail storm the next. With lots of groups out on the moor the hunt were kept in sight most of the day and several foxes were seen to safety. Our runners did a stellar bit of sabbing right at the end when hounds were in cry for a while north of Powdermills. Halfway through the day a hound was hit by a car on the Postbridge road and bundled into a hunt vehicle. We’re unsure how badly injured the hound was.
Thank you to all the amazing groups who joined us today and to the Hunt Saboteurs Association for their ongoing support.
