Devon & Somerset Staghounds killed a beautiful majestic stag today, right in front of sabs. After the hunt had chased the stag to exhaustion over several hours, witnessed by multiple sab groups, sabs found the stag at bay at Ashwick Woods near Dulverton.
As you can see from our footage, one of our sabs witnessed the stag being chased down the steep slope through the woods and caught up with him at the bottom of the hill beside a river where a member of the hunt was waiting with a gun. The stag, exhausted and unable to run any further, sat down and was shot in the head from behind. Even though our sab was in the line of fire, which the gunman knew as he shouted to “get out of the way”, the gunman still took the shot. The huntsman blew the kill and members of the hunt can be heard whooping and hollering to celebrate the death of this beautiful animal.
