No hunting for the Dulverton Farmers fox hunt yesterday as we showed up uninvited to their meet at Marsh Bridge on Exmoor, not far from the hunt kennels.
The few field riders in attendance were beginning to mount their horses as we arrived, and the hounds were still boxed up. The huntsman was taking a day off from his acting career as the character Shrek, from the movie Shrek. As usual there were terriers stored in cramped boxes on a quadbike, ready for the hunt to use for their cruel sports. But of course we never gave them the chance.
The hunt manoeuvred their vehicles so the hound van could try and leave the area, potentially to hunt elsewhere, but they were easily outsmarted. The hound van returned to the kennels, alongside the terriermen and some of the riders so we hung around in the area for a while to ensure they didn’t go back out again.
