Another weekend sab of the Eggesford Hunt! The meet was at Bircham on the edge of Burrington, owned by the Mock family.
The day began in the valleys around the meet, although hounds didn’t make a noise for the first hour. This changed when they entered the wooded valley between The Barton and Curzland Farm, where hounds started speaking and had to be rated off the scent by sabs.
Next, hunt followers lined up along the path leading up to Callard, expecting Jason to draw the dense covert lying in the valley east of the farm. However, Jason instead took hounds to the north via Hungerford Bridge and the area around the Radar Station before heading north towards Great Halfsbury.
Hounds ended up dangerously all over the busy B3217, before being called back into the same valley to draw it back in the other direction, with Jason spending most of the time on foot.
The final part of the day was in the valley between Bedpost and Leachland where hounds again erupted into cry. Jason claimed a kill in this valley (that’s right – he boasts about the kills he gets away with) and unfortunately we think a fox may indeed have been chopped here.
