Badger Cull in Full Swing, 09.24

Despite Labour’s pre-election promise to axe the badger cull, the killing of badgers continues unabated across our countryside. Devon still has several supplementary cull zones as well as one intensive cull zone (between Okehampton, Hatherleigh, Holsworthy and Launceston).

Badgers in that area are being indiscriminately killed every day and night and this will continue until November.

Shooters Stopped, Badger Cull, Sept. 2023

No kills for these two badger shooters!

Together with Plymouth & West Devon Hunt Sabs we stopped these shooters from killing badgers the other night. Having tried to fob us off with claims that they were “just shooting rabbits and foxes” (as if that makes any difference to us!), they outed themselves as badger cull shooters when they got on their phone and dialled the dedicated rapid police response number issued to all cull contractors. That rapid response turned out to be not-so-rapid in the end, much to the shooters’ frustration. When police eventually arrived they failed to determine whether sabs were still in the fields or not. The shooters made out that they were leaving the area but returned to the same place a few hours later. Unluckily for them, so did we! Empty-handed, they made the walk of shame back to their pickup truck and once again waited for the police. Police arrived with blue lights on this time but they’re really no match for the stealth and stamina of dedicated sabs. By 2am both police and shooters had given up and gone home.
