South Tetcott Hunt, Highampton, 06.12.25

Our arrival at Highampton Village Hall/Primary School was met with the usual zombie-like glares from the hunt and its supporters, who were hiding in the carpark behind the hall. Huntswoman Amy Parkin and Whip Richard Trewern were only joined by a handful of riders at the meet. Perhaps the weather forecast had changed the minds of several of the regular riders.

From the meet, Parkin dragged the hunt to Odham Moor, where the hounds picked up a line and headed west across Wagaford Water and onto Hollow Moor. For those who aren’t aware, Hollow Moor and Odham Moor is an SSSI (Site of Special Scientific Interest) and part of the European designated Culm Grassland Special Area of Conservation, “one of the largest continuous areas of species-rich unimproved grassland in Devon”, home to several nationally scarce and vulnerable species. Using an area such as this as a private playground for bloodsports is deeply irresponsible.

The day involved hounds tearing across the boggy SSSI, backwards and forwards until hounds approached the edge of ‘Anglers Paradise’ and dangerously close to a nearby shoot somewhere to the north. Despite Parkin and Trewern’s attempts to bring the hounds away, several decided they didn’t want to come back. An hour passed before the remaining hounds returned. At this point the hunt decided they’d had enough. Having spent a few hours disturbing all manner of wildlife, with foxes and deer seen running in various directions, the hunt headed back to the meet and packed up at around 2:30pm.

Torrington Farmers and South Tetcott Hunt, 26.11.24

Last Tuesday we took a trip down memory lane to one of the now-disbanded Tetcott Hunt’s old haunts at Marhamchurch, over the border in Cornwall. Stevenstone and South Tetcott Hunts would both quite like to add this area to their existing hunt ‘country’, and we’re aware there’s no love lost between these two hunts.

So it felt like perhaps a point was being made when the South Tetcott Hunt invited Stevenstone’s other neighbours, the Torrington Farmers, to bring their hounds down to hunt this area on Tuesday. That’s three hunts now vying for the blood of this area’s resident foxes. Not on our watch.

We were joined by a few friends from Plymouth and West Devon Hunt Sabs and Kernow Sabs, Monitors and Animal Rights Team. The meet was next to a dung heap at a little crossroads east of the village. The average age of those attending was about 70 and judging by some of their comments throughout the day, we suspect the average IQ was rather lower.

After getting their fill of port and sausage rolls, the hunt began drawing streams and hedges towards Pinch and then up towards Grove Park. Some riders had clearly had a few too many at the meet and were rightly punished by their horses for forcing them to cross flooded rivers. One rider went arse-over-tit into the water and had to be piggy-backed across the river by another rider. It was clear their horses were not comfortable being made to jump out onto the slippery banks of the river, but it’s equally clear that people who think animal cruelty is ‘sport’ are not going to particularly care about their horses either.

South Tetcott Hunt, Black Torrington, 05.10.24

On Saturday, we paid a visit to the South Tetcott Hunt at their (not so) early morning cubbing meet at Highweek Farm near Black Torrington.

The hound van arrived at the meet shortly after 8:30am with supporters and riders slowly dragging themselves to the meet for the next hour or so, smiles wiping from their faces the moment they realised we were there to greet them. Even serial badger sett violator Ben Vincent of the recently exposed Axe Vale dig out made an appearance.

Thanks to the delayed arrival of some of the field riders, the hunt finally left the meet well after 9:30am. They made their way westwards and then north along the road towards Highweek Wood, where they entered through a supposed ‘Conservation Area’, a strange place to drag dozens of hounds, horses, and a handful of quadbikes through…

Huntswoman Amy Parkin attempted to draw the woodlands eastwards, but sabs were on her tail to keep the hunt moving. They proceeded to exit the woodland into a vast area of scrubland, which is where it all began to go wrong for Amy. As she attempted to draw the hounds through the scrub, tongue rolling as she went, the hounds began to scatter far and wide! Hunt members then had to spend ages going backwards and forwards, trying to gather the wayward hounds that much preferred the sights and smells of the surrounding woodland, to anything that Amy had planned.

Torrington Farmers Hunt 28.9.24

A few days after exposing the Torrington Farmers’ ties to now-convicted paedophile Andrew Webber, the Torrington Farmers’ huntsman and his assistant assaulted one of our sabs yesterday morning during their cubbing meet.

The hunt had met at Alverdiscott, on land between West Woodland and Alscott Barton. When we arrived the hunt had already unloaded their hounds and begun drawing one of the gullies on foot. Hounds were scattered and quadbikes and 4x4s were lined up either side of the gully to spot for and push back any foxes trying to escape.

We soon put a stop to that. Within 5 minutes of dropping sabs into the field and sending the drone up over the hunt, they gave up and started walking in direction of Alscott Farm, run by John and Mandy Ridd. “We’re just exercising the hounds” and “we’re hunting a trail” were muttered almost simultaneously in protestation by members of the hunt who had got up before sunrise in order to satiate their bloodlust.

Unable to get their fix, the hunt turned their anger on sabs. One of our runners was bundled to the ground by Steve Craddock and his mate, who proceeded to rip off the sab’s mask and hat as he was lying on the floor.

Sab being assaulted by Steve Craddock. Still from bodycam.

Terriermen From Vile Axe Vale Digout Attend South Tetcott Cubbing Meet, South Tetcott, 07.09.24

We heard Ben Vincent and Dave Shillam were going to be making an appearance at the South Tetcott cubbing meet at East Park (near St Giles on the Heath) last Saturday evening. So of course we weren’t going to pass up an opportunity to keep an eye on what they get up to.

We caught Ben digging out at the Eggesford cubbing meet just last week and together with Mendip Hunt Saboteurs we filmed Ben and Dave digging out at the Axe Vale (where Dave is a regular) just a few months ago. See the HSA’s post about that.

Ahead of National Trail Hunting Day (aka Smokescreen Saturday) this weekend, the footage we filmed at the Axe Vale exposes what hunts up and down the country really get up to, week in, week out, when they pretend to be ‘trail-hunting’.

Stevenstone Hunt and South Tetcott Hunt, 09.12.23

On Saturday we shut down two fox hunts with our friends Plymouth & West Devon Hunt Sabs. Our convoy first headed to Woolfardisworthy (or Woolsery) to pay a visit to the Stevenstone Hunt. This lot have been without a huntsman and on the verge of collapse for the last few months. In desperation the’ve installed a new and completely inexperienced huntswoman, Jessica Harrison, whose mother Judith Webster is a “holistic, natural, homeopathic vet”. It’s always pretty concerning to hear of vets who support bloodsports! Jessica is someone we’ve previously encountered riding with the Lamerton and other hunts in the west Devon area.

The meet was at 10am at Hurley Meadow Farm and was clearly intended as a training exercise for the new huntswoman. However, as sabs were there, there was no hunting of any kind. We spent the morning following the hounds, huntswoman and riders around the roads, public footpaths and bridleways that surrounded the meet. Hunt supporters made some half-baked attempts at blocking our vehicles from following and gleefully filmed themselves whenever they succeeded in doing so, but ultimately there was no getting away from our vehicles and foot teams. As the morning went on, some hunt followers couldn’t contain their frustration and the predictable pushing and shoving ensued, not just from the old boys but also some kids with balaclavas. Support vehicle also tried to force their way past whilst dangerously close to riders and quad bikes tried to force foot sabs off the road

South Tetcott Hunt, North Tamerton, 18.11.23

On Saturday we took a trip across the Tamar (only just!) to pay a visit to the South Tetcott Hunt, whose huntsman Tim Ingram spent some time in hospital recently after being mauled by his own hounds. We were not surprised to hear about it. When hounds cower from human touch, it’s a pretty good sign of how they’re treated at home.

The meet was at Way Farm on the edge of North Tamerton and the hunt with their 12 field riders and handful of quadbikes spent most of the day going round and round the various small copses and valleys between Way Farm, Down Farm, Allisdon, Trepoyle, Haydon and West and East Balsdon, as well as the edge of the Tamar and Old Canal. Trepoyle is owned by agricultural feed merchant and badger cull director Bill Harper, so we were pleased to pay a return visit to this wildlife murderer’s farm too (he also runs an abattoir on-site).

With hardly any road access, it was up to our three foot teams to keep up with the hunt on foot all day. Our runners covered huge distances, as they always do, while other foot sabs were positioned strategically to intercept hounds when they were chasing foxes. This worked well, as numerous foxes were seen by sabs throughout the day, with one being chased at least three times.

South Tetcott Hunt, Henford, Ashwater, 28.01.23

Today we paid a visit to the South Tetcott Hunt who were meeting at Henford near Ashwater.

They spent the entire day pretty hemmed in, drawing the valley between Henford Moor and Henford Wood, spending a long time in the wood and then drawing Panson Wood to the south. Foot sabs kept up with them throughout, ensuring there were no kills. Our runners get a special mention – it’s not an easy job!

The whole area smelled strongly of fox and hunting conditions were good. When hounds started speaking in Panson Wood and huntsman Tim Ingram didn’t call them off, some sabs rated hounds out of the woods while others used horn and voice calls to gather the pack in the neighbouring field. Hounds responded beautifully and a bit of a ping-pong ensued with hounds running back and forth between sabs and huntsman. No foxes were hunted in that time, so job done!

We’re very grateful for the continued support we receive from our followers, and would like to say thank-you for all the words of appreciation following our involvement in the Spooner’s terrierman conviction this week.

South Tetcott Hunt, Northlew, 10.12.22

Yesterday’s sub-zero snowy weather didn’t deter Devon’s hunts from going out to kill wildlife. Neither did it deter us. South Tetcott hunt at least made the sensible decision to leave their horses at home, and instead only arrived at their meet on the edge of Northlew with hounds in the back of a trailer.

Keeping up with them on foot was pretty straightforward and not much ground was covered: from Bogtown Cross to Wigdon Mill, via a kale field into the valley south of there and then back up to Wadland Barton, where some hounds broke away and headed south towards Lower Melbury and Venn Barton, where they were eventually boxed up.

Our three foot teams kept eyes on hounds and huntsman throughout. Whenever the snow died down we also had the drone up above them, which resulted in huntsman Tim Ingram instructing his followers to try and shoot it down (they didn’t).

South Tetcott Hunt, Kempthorne, 26.11.22

South Tetcott Hunt 26.11.22 This Saturday we had a wet and windy day sabbing the South Tetcott Hunt at Kempthorne near their kennels at Tetcott.

It was our first encounter with their new huntsman, Tim Ingram, who was recently given a conditional caution and ordered to pay almost £1000 to Mendip Hunt Sabs after causing criminal damage to their vehicle while he was still whipper-in with the Mendip Farmers’ Hunt.

Ingram started off on foot, sending hounds through Moortown Plantation. While he gave us an explanation of the genealogy of his hounds, they picked up on a scent and went into cry, running loops around the plantation. However, sabs were close by and able to rate hounds when necessary. This set a pattern for the day where the huntsman was completely happy to blatantly hunt in front of sabs.
