We had so many tipoffs about the Taunton Vale Harriers closing meet at Rull House on the edge of Ashill, it would have been rude not to join our friends at Mendip Hunt Sabs to pay them a visit!
Clearly the hunt had spent the morning getting sozzled. When we found them on the edge of the village, bottles of drink were being passed around and many of the riders were barely managing to stay on their horses. Their drunken rants made even less sense than they normally do and they made themselves even more unpopular with the locals than they already are.
Hounds briefly went into cry near Allhallows Farm but were rated off the scent by sabs. The huntsman had no control and hounds spent the next hour in small groups on all sides of the village doing their own thing before eventually being called back to the road and heading back to the meet to pack up by 3.30pm. On the way, hounds invaded gardens and defecated on people’s lawns. All the drunken riders then got in their vehicles and drove home…
