Off for a spot of golf this Saturday afternoon? How would you like to spend your peaceful afternoon witnessing hounds screeching in cry tearing across the golf course you pay for, accompanied by the dull irritating sound of a huntsman’s horn blowing ringing through the trees.
Well come down to Libbaton Golf Course in High Bickington, where the Torrington Farmers Hunt were hunting foxes on Saturday 25th January!
Huntsman, hounds and a handful of field riders set off from the meet at Deptford and began searching for foxes along hedgerows towards Vauterhill farm. Our foot teams were deployed and kept up with the hunt well, despite aggressive behavior and threats from the hunt supporters. After hunting through the farmland, the hounds broke out onto the busy Libbaton Golf Course, and were in cry up and down the western side. Someone who works at the golf course asked sabs to leave, but clearly wasn’t that bothered by the hounds on the course. Is this a regular occurrence? If you use this golf course, you can contact the manager Stephen Herniman via enquiries.libbatongc@live.co.uk to ask about his relationship with this local illegal foxhunt.
After spending ages gathering the pack, huntsman Steve Craddock took the hounds on another brief loop of the area around Dadlands, before hacking their way back to the meet at 2pm. After an unsuccessful and uneventful hunting day, the hunt supporters were probably begging Craddock for their money back! We stayed in the area and waited for them to leave before heading home ourselves.
