Eggesford Hunt, Chulmleigh, 04.11.23

The Eggesford hunt killed a fox in front of sabs at their Opening Meet. Sadly we believe the hunt may have killed on more than one occasion that day, and hounds were found marking other foxes to ground twice. Devon & Cornwall’s finest arrived on scene right at the end, as usual many hours too late.

After Jason’s boring half-hour long speech, he left the meet at Sydney House on the edge of Chulmleigh and took his field of 15 riders north-east through the village and on via a kale field towards Horridge Moor. Hounds quickly picked up on the scent of a fox here and were seen running on a line across the valley. Sabs tried their best to intervene, although the hunt covered a lot go ground very quickly. They were found marking the fox to ground eventually at Cadbury Barton. Sabs kept an eye on the location to prevent a digout.

The hunt spent the rest of the afternoon mostly in the area between Horridge Moor and East Garland Farm, putting up several hares and pursuing a number of foxes. Sabs intervened whenever possible to split up the pack and take hounds off the various foxes and hares they were chasing. As they made their way back south, hounds picked up a scent near Challacombe Cross and chased this fox into a patch of gorse in the valley. Jason encouraged hounds on with horn and voice and unfortunately they bolted this fox from the gorse and killed in front of sabs. Sabs retrieved the fox’s body while Jason congratulated the hounds. Eggesford Hunt at Cliston, Sampford Courtenay, 15.12.2018

Three members of the Eggesford Hunt brutally attacked sabs. Property was stolen and a sab had to be airlifted to hospital.

DCHS, along with one of our good friends from Somerset Hunt Sabs, hit the Eggesford Hunt’s meet at Cliston, Sampford Courtenay. Conditions were very wet with rain for most of the day and many of the streams having overflowed their banks to flood paths. Most of our sabs ended up soaked, with boots full of water by the end of the day, but a bit of water will never deter us.

Eggesford Hunt at Higher Densham, two dig-outs, 20.1.2018

We were due to pay the Eggesford a visit, and we’re so glad we did yesterday, as we saved two foxes hunted to ground in badger setts. See our footage of the second dig-out.

The hunt met at Higher Densham in Black Dog. Within seconds of leaving the meet into the river valley to the south, hounds were in full cry. One of our foot teams was ideally positioned to intercept them as they scrambled through a thick hedge on the line of a fox. Hounds then ran a full circle before huntsman Jason Marles caught up with them again, by which time the pack was split across a half mile stretch between Higher Menchinedown and Woolfardisworthy. While Marles was busy trying to get his pack back together, some groups of hounds could be heard speaking and one of our vehicles witnessed a fox run across the road not far from them. Sabs covered her scent with citronella and she got away.

Silverton Hunt at Hayne House, 13.1.2018

Back to the Silverton with our friends from Somerset Hunt Saboteur Group. The extra attention we’ve been giving this hunt is starting to pay off. The hunt met at Hayne House, just outside Silverton. On the way to the meet the huntsman enlisted several elderly hunt supporters in Silverton to block our vehicle by standing in the middle of the road. This week we were surprised to find several police vehicles in attendance even before the hunt set off. It transpired that they’d asked the hunt in advance where they would be meeting and that the huge volume of complaints they’d had from all of you since New Year’s Day haven’t fallen on completely deaf ears. Thank you!

Silverton Hunt at Upton Hellions, 6.1.2018

Once more to the Silverton Hunt, who killed a fox (something they’ve now admitted), assaulted sabs and broke one of our cameras earlier this week. We were joined by friends from Somerset Hunt Saboteur Group. This time the hunt met at Upton Hellions near Crediton, with a field of about twenty riders plus four quad bikes. The only red coat was their field master Philip Saunders. Huntsman and whip both donned black coats and kept a low profile throughout the day. The hunt are on the back foot and running scared, having been caught red-handed killing a fox.

Silverton Hunt at Gingerland, 1.1.2018

The Silverton Hunt killed a fox today, in full view of sabs. They met at Gingerland Livery near Cullompton and spent the first few hours hunting in valleys around Colebrook before heading to Highdown Farm, where they drew several small coverts close to the M5. Hounds were heard speaking in a covert west of Cranishaies Lane and sabs got into position on two nearby footpaths in time to witness hounds kill a fox. Hounds had grabbed the fox at both ends and disembowelled him. The fox, a young male, sustained bite wounds all over his face and abdomen. Huntsman Chris Matterface had been encouraging hounds on and made no attempts to call them off. Sabs retrieved the body while Matterface took the hounds and legged it.

Cotley Harriers at Chard, Boxing Day 2017

The Cotley Harriers met in Chard town centre for their Boxing Day meet. They were met by protesters in the town centre and sabs in the field. The Cotley were well overdue a visit from us, as they killed both times we last sabbed them, once in plain sight (see our video) and once by hunting a fox to ground in an artificial earth before bolting and shooting it. They hunt in Devon and Somerset and yesterday they straddled the border.

Eggesford Hunt at Higher Cliston, 16.12.2017

We spent a lot of time with the Eggesford Hunt last season. They hunt and kill with impunity and have a history of violence towards our sabs. But with so many hunts in Devon we have been spreading the love around this season so Eggesford were well overdue a full day of our attention. They met at Higher Cliston farm near Sampford Courtenay where we situated sab teams in opportune positions. The new huntsman, Jason Marles (who comes from dubious pedigree with a father sentenced to six months for assaulting an elderly female monitor in 2009 when he was huntsman with East Devon Hunt and a brother convicted of illegal hunting whilst he was whipper-in with the Middleton Hunt in 2013) led a vastly diminished field of seven riders and a bedraggled bunch of followers in vehicles and on quads.

Lamerton Hunt at Coombe, Lifton, 9.12.2017

Never a dull day with the Lamerton. They met at Coombe in Lifton and set off straight into the river valley east of the meet. Hounds were hunted through woodland and dense gorse: certainly not anywhere a trail could have been laid! Sabs had been stationed on both sides of the valley for about half an hour before the hunt left the meet and there had been no sign of a trail-layer anywhere. Anyone who knows anything about scent knows that a trail laid any earlier than that would have evaporated by the time the hunt eventually appeared in the valley. And anyone who needs convincing that the Lamerton’s claims about trail-hunting are a pack of lies need only watch this footage of them killing a vixen and her cubs.
